This year, the cheese week will last from February 12 to 18. This is the most generous and fun Russian folk festival with delicious pancakes, plentiful and rich treats and wide festivities.


Traditionally, all 7 days, every day in all houses there will be pancakes - the main Pancake week treat, a symbol of the sun and the coming spring - which will treat not only their households, but also everyone who comes to visit these days. And, of course, at the same time they will beautifully set the table on Shrovetide.

Table setting and decoration will depend, first of all, how wide the festive feast is planned. Our bright, interesting and simple ideas will help you decide what your Shrovetide table will be like.

A variety of toppings and snacks



For each filling, whether it is honey, ghee, sour cream, jam, condensed milk, caviar or jam, you need a separate cup, bowl or rosette.

It is also worth serving cold and hot appetizers and slices, which can also be used as fillings for pancakes - saucers and dessert plates with different types of slightly salted fish, chopped cheese, ham, pickled cucumbers and mushrooms and, of course, with fresh herbs.

Tablecloths, napkins and tableware

Shrovetide festival is directly related to natural phenomena - we see off winter and meet spring. So, when setting the table, it is worth giving preference to natural materials.

Embroidered linen or cotton tablecloths.
Lace knitted napkins. Towels of unbleached linen or cotton. All this is very symbolic and emphasizes the natural beginning of the holiday.

Rosy pancakes - lush yeast, thin lace, large and small, with and without filling - make you forget about the most strict diet. It is simply impossible to resist!

Pancakes with basil

4 servings

• 2 eggs
• 3 tbsp. l Sahara
• 150 ml of kefir and milk
• 1 tsp Soda
• 250 g flour
• 3 sprigs of basil
• grated zest of 1 lime

Cooking:

1. Beat eggs with sugar, add kefir. Pour soda, flour and mix thoroughly so that there are no lumps. To cut leaves from basil branches and finely chop them. Together with the zest, add to the egg and flour mass and mix thoroughly.
2. Then gradually, with stirring, pour warm milk. From the resulting dough in a pan with non-stick coating, bake small pancakes (1 tbsp. L. Dough for each). Before serving, pancakes can be sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with fruit or jam.

Pancake Chicken Bags

For 4 servings:

• 1 large chicken fillet
• 2 eggs
• a pinch of salt
• 1 tbsp. l Sahara
• 150 g flour
• 500 ml of milk
• vegetable oil for frying
• 1 onion
• 100 g of boiled rice
• 2 tbsp. l chopped parsley
• smoked cheese pigtail
• salt
• ground black pepper

Cooking:

1. Wash the chicken fillet, wrap in foil and bake for 40 minutes at 180 °. For a pancake dough, beat the eggs with salt and sugar. Add flour and knead thoroughly. Gradually, whisk with a mixer at low speed, pour in warm milk. Leave the dough for 10 minutes at room temperature, then bake thin pancakes from it, periodically lubricating the pan with vegetable oil.
2. For the filling, finely chop the baked chicken fillet. Chop the onion and brown on a small amount of vegetable oil. Add chicken, rice and parsley. Salt, pepper, mix and warm all together.
3. Fill the filling in the middle of each pancake, lift the edges up above it so that a “bag” is obtained.Top with a string of smoked cheese.

Italian pancakes

For 4 servings:

• 50 g of arugula
• 200 g ham
• 300 g mozzarella
• 3 eggs
• a pinch of salt
• 1 tbsp. l Sahara
• 150 g flour
• 600 g of milk
• vegetable oil for frying

Cooking:

1. Wash the arugula, dry well and chop finely. Cut part of the ham (about 50 g) into small cubes, the rest into thin slices. Cut mozzarella into strips.
2. For a pancake dough, beat the eggs with salt and sugar. Pour in flour and mix thoroughly. Add arugula and ham. Mix. Then gradually, whisking with a mixer at a low speed, pour in warm milk. Leave for 15 minutes at room temperature.
3. From the resulting test, bake thin pancakes, periodically lubricating the pan with vegetable oil. Place mozzarella, ham slices on each immediately and fold in four.

And, remember that pancakes are served hot, hot and traditionally eat these delicious “suns” with your hands.
