The method is suitable when strips or another pattern, clearly visible from the front, is poorly visible from the inside, but you need to take it into account when cutting.

This life hack will help in cases when we work with fabrics in a small geometric pattern that is not visible from the inside, or with fabrics with a similar texture. It can be a micro velveteen in a thin rib, another textured fabric or material with a pattern with obvious vertical (or horizontal) elements on the front side. Their direction must be observed when cutting - but they are not visible from the inside.

For example, here is the micro-velveteen on the front side (pin for scale):

A simple way that will help in such cases, I will show on the example of a micro-velvet and details of a patch pocket for a skirt.

You will need:

- the cloth;

- pattern;

- tailor pins;

- either a needle for basting and threads contrasting with respect to the color of the fabric.

Step 1

We find on the fabric a line along which we will orient ourselves. For example, if for a cut the flap is folded in half, we find the midline of the flap and, accordingly, the rib or strip that pass along this line. On the front side we put a pin, as shown in the photo, so that it comes in and out exactly along the intended strip or scar.

Step 2

Focusing exactly on the same strip or rib, we add more pins through some distances, until we mark the line of the desired length.

Step 3

From the inside, the pins form a dashed line with the line we need. The same thing can be done by laying a bast with contrasting thread in wide stitches. Pins are not always clearly visible, for example, on a colorful fabric.
