Charles and Elin work and travel together, making "embroidered sketches" of their favorite streets, buildings, and city views.

About the authors of the page

Charles Henry & Elin Petronella, Franco-Swedish textile artists, are partners in both life and work. They create unusual embroidered works inspired by urban landscapes. Together, Charles and Elin are known as Le Kadre, and they say about their goal: "We want to inspire and motivate people, infect them with our creativity." Each of their embroidered landscapes is an illustration of couples traveling and walking, their favorite streets, buildings and views.

Charles grew up in Paris. “I grew up daily enjoying the view of beautiful, inspiring buildings. I felt that I could reflect this in my work, finding my own, a new look at my city.” Elin - from Sweden, now also lives in Paris. “I started painting cityscapes while still living in Sweden 10 years ago,” she says. “It seems to me that beauty and innovation are not everything that makes architecture such an inspiring motif for embroidery. It’s still in history, in the possibility tell something about each place. "

What is this page about

The Parisian balconies or streets of Danish cities planted with flowers - each work of Charles and Elin begins as a small sketch, sketch, and then embodies in embroidery. They embroider in different techniques: it can be works completely filled with colored stitches of the surface, or black and white embroidered “sketches” similar to ink drawings on a sheet. The couple leads courses and seminars promoting their Architectural Embroidery Guide. They teach using a needle and thread to create "straight lines that draw buildings, depict gradients in the crown of trees and leaves of plants, show all the charm of flowers."
